Do you want to go to the seaside?

Team Onepiece goes B-town

Last weekend Jaleh and I took off early in the morning by bus to Brighton.
I had promised her we'd go before she leaves London before me.
And thank lord I keep my promises.

Brighton is lovely. To me Britain had always meant London. I practically didn't see England, or the UK, having anything else than London. The country and Kingdom being just one big city.
Going to Brighton proved me wrong.

As we got to Brighton at 10am we headed off to check out the beach first.
Thoughts:
A city with the combination of a Nice beach, the London Eye, Holland's The Hague vibe with archades and rides, craziness of London's Camden as well as calmness of the seaside of Helsinki, all spiced up by placing Taj Mahal right in the middle of the center.

If you ever visit, you'll get what I mean.

We took our longboards with us, as Brighton is known for the board scene.
In London you are lucky to see a longboarder on the streets. Over half of the city's citizens probably haven't even seen one in their lives, neither a board for that matter. You daily get amazed looks from people who witness this oh-so-new freaky invention: a longboard - board longer than a skateboard. Woooow.

In Brighton...you are just like any other person. Nobody gives a damn as: Everyone has a longboard/skateboard anyway!
Thumbs up for all those young fathers we saw in the center riding their longboards as their little kids rode beside on their scooters. Now that's what I call a cool daddy!!

Be wise, skate safe!
(the difference between London and Brighton skaters BTW.)
hint hint

One of my aims for the trip was to find a new little friend. A Penny.
The one and only glow in the dark Penny.
Longboard shop Oddballs had run out of the little plastic piece I wanted but thankfully for the same price I could get one from an other local skate shop called Route One.
Now I have a baby that I can take anywhere, anytime. Ace.

In November (pictures from the skate session here) I had my first push on a Penny. On one just like I now have.
I couldn't believe how good such a small board could feel under your feet. So stable, so fast, and could pump for ever. I looked at Ant trick around with his Penny -board, was amazed and couldn't get the board out of my head since.

That was £8 well spent on a round trip to Brighton. Yes, National Express was damn cheap!

I'm not at all surprised Brighton band, The Kooks, fell in love with the seaside...

My New Years Outfit

Remember what I got my dad for Christmas last year? Refresh your memory here.

Onepiece has their London office in the same business complex where my work is.
Today they have a special sale lasting till 4pm for the ppl working at the complex + for friends and family, and wherever the word spreads.

As my friends from Norway are coming to London for New Years, I thought it would be lovely to make them feel like home and have something to remind them of their country. Onepiece is originally from Norway you seee!
The guys are planning to wear suits on NYE and I think I just got myself an outfit, too! I hope they'll be as excited of my SUIT as I am.

What I got is the 'OnePiece Hanna', which can be found here. It's a slim fit, so not as baggy as the normal ones.
This might just be the most cosy day at work ever. Chill.
Thank you Onepiece for making my life a bit easier: no need to think of what to wear anymore.

PS: And yes, Onepiece and Hyggepiece are a different company.
PPS: Earlier at the sale we heard about Justin Bieber being spotted walking around in Nottingham wearing a Onepiece. Sales had bursted. No, don't get me wrong - that's not why I have one! ;-)

Packing problems

Hjälp!

A cry for help as I try and pack for a long weekend to...where? Oslo.

The weather forecast says brr cold, cold and cold. From around 0-3°C.
As you can see I've packed most of my wool clothes.
For once I'm leaving with an OK amount of clothes, I think.

But I have a little problem: what to wear on a night out? Help.
I haven't been out for ages so I'm feeling uncomfortable in whatever I choose. Lately my clothes have been a combination of the most chillest pieces my wardrobe has. Converse shoes being a must.
And now it looks like I only have room for one jacket (new brown+creme+pink colored River Island one, top left) and one pair of shoes; brown boots (which actually have torn from the back..thumbs up for River Island quality) - so the party clothing should fit these colors.
Maybe the easiest way to solve this is to just do some shopping in Oslo, right mum?

But please help me out with any clothing suggestions. Desperate, haha!
At least I've got a request to not wear 'shoulder high' clothes as apparently the majority of Norwegian males find it disgusting. (that is two out of the whole population)

good night,
linda

L21 and family

17.10.2011
Linda 21 years!

On my Birthday I got some more visitors, as my parents came to London.
We went out to eat at Brick Lane. Indian food! Tasty!

We went to a restaurant called Sheba. I had my chicken korma, as usual. I think I had chicken korma three times this week. It's so good! Especially at that restaurant.

Who else isn't a big fan of the moments of awkwardness when the lights go off in the restaurant, everybody is silent, stares at you..and you start to hear movement of someone walking your way after which the whole room of people starts singing happy birthday? Oh my...Such attention feels juuust slightly uncomfortable. But nice. ;-)

I'm craving for that chicken korma at the moment by the way...or the tikka masala.

Spot the sexy leg?
<3 daddy

On Wednesday 19th we
met up with my parents by Big Ben.
Went to Camden.
Bought sliding gloves (!!) from Oddballs, which I haven't yet been able to test out. Hopefully soon!
Had pub fish'n'chips with an old family friend.

And went to see Ghost the musical.
Did I already tell we went to see Legally Blond with Ingar? Well, in my opinion it was nothing compared to my expectations. Probably the worst musical disappointment ever. Boooo.
In my opinion the actors should have been younger - at least from our seats they looked quite old and it felt funny for them to act as college students. Plus the songs weren't too good. Anyway, in general I just think it's not a must see. Wasn't that funny, wasn't that special. Though, opinions vary - the girls sitting behind us probably thought the opposite than us.

After seeing Legally Blond I was truly hoping Ghost wouldn't be as of a bore.
And it wasn't.
Amazing technique, the light effects, visuals, wow wow wow. It was just something I'd never seen before in musicals. Really impressive! The actors were great and sang extremely well. The songs were touchy, the whole atmosphere in the theater was amazing.
At one point we could hear half of the theater crying. I think that was quite impressive. Had to turn my head around to see if it was for real - and it was. The audience was captured into the story and kept hooked till the very end.
I hardly ever go see anything, especially musicals, twice. But now I have a feeling it could be nice to experience Ghost from better seats. It just was pretty damn good!

They are advertising Finland at the tube stations. Like crazy big adverts covering the walls of the tunnels and all. Cool!

A little update on what has been going on

Time flies and soon, in 6days, I will be on the plane with Karen and Jaleh on our way to Don LONLONLON!

The last weeks have been filled with program.
Flow Festival 2011 - of which I will write more later.
and Helsinki in general, visitors, cottage weekend, Jyväskylä, sorting out apartment+internship+exchange papers, friends, andandand a great new purchase:
my new baby:
I finally changed my Nikon Coolpix P90 to a Canon 600D, and geee am I happy!

On Monday 15th I went for a smoothie with Petri and Teemu, and took my camera for its first test shooooting. Petri helping me out a bit with how the cam functions.

After, we went to pick up Jonas and Ingar from the airport and picked up Ellu to join us dining.
On our way for dinner at Santa Fé the guys cracked up laughing when they saw Nissen and Otto and some other things. Also the Norwegian and Finnish languages seem to have same words but with different meanings...

Later we met up with Lauri, Jussi and Juho at Kustaa Vaasa.

...the next day we got more company, and more the day after, and more and more and more...
during these two weeks I've seen so many lovelies, that it's incredible.
But what not lovely, I'm getting the same feelings as a year ago this time: I don't feel like leaving my friends again and I wouldn't mind living the life in Jyväskylä! But once I leave, I know the adventures and experience will be worth it. They always are!

Oh, and PS.
I still don't have an apartment, so if anyone has any suggestions, let me know!
South East London would be perfect, 2 bed apartments, furnished, bills included...

Globe Bandelero

In yesterday's post I promised to introduce you to my new love. Well here it is!

My first longboard ever! And oh gosh am I happy.
Since Chris introduced me to longboarding in the Netherlands, I haven't been able to get my mind off it.
Now after weeks of thinking, I finally made the decision and bought one.
Where from? Overboard.fi !
Globe Bandelero cruiser.

First I was shocked about the length of the board as I had thought of buying a shorter one. After a little practicing the board turned out to be the perfect solution for what I needed. A good choice for a beginner. Easy, steady and stable. Ended up cruising for three hours on the new pavements of Varkaus, and I think I might just get my board out and go kicking again now.

Maybe someday I'll have my balance and longboarding talent good enough to go cruising like the girls in this video. Oh, I wish. ;-) But damn that looks chill! Enjoy!

Have a great weekend all!

Summer of love

Ah, I arrived to Finland on Thursday for a quick visit - my cousin's wedding.
I love weddings!
Our family has been used to funerals for the past few years, so it was really nice to finally meet up at a sliiightly happier event. ;-)

The wedding was really pretty.
As always discussed: How was the priest? He was good. Nice speech.
The wedding couple had the cutest car.
Amazing food. Amazing. Oh my. Best I've had in...ever. (as you can see from the photo, i might have gotten a little too excited and just mixed up everything there was to offer into one big mess hahah. anyhow, sooo tasty!)
Cozy and beautiful celebration environment.
And nice to see relatives again.
And great to see people in love and happy!

Ooh, plus I finally got to wear my lovedress that I bought in Madrid for the wedding.
Surprisingly I still fitted in it. Luckily. ;-)

Weddings ! <3

Now my eyes are falling off and hinting me that my '10hours of sleep per night' -rhythm has been lacking hours for nights already. 6-8h is just not enough, not for me. But - yet again, it'll have to be, since kayaking with papi tomorrow morning is worth waking up for!

love and weddinghypingly,
linda
