My longboarding trip today

Rånåsfoss cruisin'

An accidental 20km in nearly 30°C heat and cruising in the wroooong direction as most hills were UP not DOWN.
Know better next time.

Came back from the trip with a smile and a burning shoe. The last hill was kinda tough and breaking on that bumpy asphalt, uhhh, hothothot.

Way up North: Ørnes

Ørnes: More North than I've ever been

This weekend was spent up, up North of Norway in Ørnes. A 2 hour drive from Bodø, where we flew to.
Keywords of the trip were:
- nature: snow coated mountains
- fishing
- hiking
- eating
- sleeping

...and a longboarding trip, too. Though there should have been more of that. ;-)
Well, at least now I have a good (golf)bag in which to carry my board/s when traveling. Can't wait to hit the hills in my hometown and cottage area in a couple of weeks!

Will have to divide the posts a bit, so you won't drown in the amount of pictures I have waiting for you!

11PM view from car on the way from Bodø to Ørnes: 24h of sunlight. perfection.

i thought i had come back to fresh, clean air as i got back home to eastern finland from london five months ago. i was wrong.
when stepping out of the car in ørnes i realized i hadn't breathed fresh air since... visiting my grandparents cottage up north of finland when i was what - 5years old?

it felt, smelt and tasted so good. fuel from the nature.

and how about that clear sea water?!? if only it were 15°C warmer, though..

whose up for going on a northern mountain push with me?! i want to hit those silent, empty, good roads again. one go was not enough.
when you get a little bit of sweet you'll want more.

As usual, I got carried away with all the photographing.
But how could one not in an environment like this.

Smiles,
Linda

chill bill

27.5.2012

This morning mummy and me have already been up to a lot.

Breakfast close by at baker Hansen.

Chilling at St.Hanshaugen watching skaters do some freeriding before the King Of The Hill competition.

Sunday market at Blå. Hereby some better pictures that I promised last time I posted about it.
We were there already when it opened at 12. Very little people, very quiet.
These +30°C temperatures have probably gotten people visiting the islands and all. It's just crazy sweatyhot in the city. Sooocooool.

Helmet sideways, life's goood.

Walking round Grünerløkka, adoring the cute old Oslo houses and coming back home to cook.
I think I might just pop by at Haugen park again to have a look at how the KOTH competition is going!

Need for speed

Yeah, just as I hoped. The longboard community is just as welcoming in Oslo as it was in London.
People willing to teach, people willing to learn.
A family.

A few shots from today's session at St. Hanshaugen park. My first session.
I can't wait to get a new board. I can't wait to learn more about sliding. I can't wait till I have more stability. I can't wait till I have the courage to go down from the top of the St. Hanshaugen hill.
This summer will be sk8mazing!

OSLO, man!

Halla fra Oslo city ass!

I arrived yesterday and I've already been up to a lot and met manymanymany people. The one thing I haven't done is taken photos. Wanted to enjoy a day of sun, skate and freedom.

So once I got to Ingar's apartment I unpacked my longboards, put on the trucks and we headed out to skate. Skated to town to arrange all kinds of stuff like get a bus card, try and arrange my social security number and bank stuff but everything except the bus card was a flop. Hopefully I'll get the rest done soon! Just need to get some documents filled in first.

The weather was amazing. Wearing a hoodie, skating down huge hills (huge for me) on a Penny, trying to look cool with sunglasses on my head...yeah - can't complain! Seeing about 30 longboarders in a day isn't that bad either. Unfortunately the culture just seems to be veeery different to what it was in London. In London everyone always said hi when they saw someone with a longboard. It was kinda like a community and social activity. In Oslo longboards seem to be more of a transport method. At least from what I've seen now. But that's ok, I'm sure I can find the social side of it, too!

In the evening we had a party. Oh man, like 30 people came to celebrate the end of exams and start of Easter holiday. Or to welcome me to Norway? Hah. Well, probably not as I knew hardly any of them. ;-) Fun night, fun people!

I get the keys to my apartment and move on April 1st. Exciting! Now I just need to find furniture. Let the search begin.

Hope Oslo hasn't stolen all the sun in the world! Though I wouldn't complain...
Think I'm going out for a skate.

This post is all about stoke. Critical Mass: February, London.

Just by looking at this first picture: Can you believe that this was the best skate so far? The best skate ever?

London will forever be my longboarding home.
Look at those people! Aren't they just great?

To the point:

Critical Mass February, London

My second CM. Hopefully not last.
They better have Critical Mass in the city/cities I live in the future. If not. Hey - I'm so arranging.
If the concept of Critical Mass is unfamiliar to you, read my post of my first CM in October here. From that post you can also find a video I made of the event.

The mass never has a point of direction nor a certain destination, it just goes and it flows.
It always starts at South Bank, near Waterloo station and usually goes past St. Pauls Cathedral.
Bombing Oxford Street, continuing on to Regent Street or Park Lane is also a very common route. And the best part of the mass. It's crazy how crazy the tourists get! Snapping pictures and cheering at us with amazed faces. People asking 'what is this all about?' and looking confused as...heaven.
Critical Mass feels good.

My favorite part of the mass was as we rode down Regent Street, continued towards Leicester Square, turned down to Haymarket and continued on Pall Mall ending up at Trafalgar Square. Long downhill. Smooth. Skating down Haymarket the fastest I've ever had the courage to go. Adrenaline rush.
Perfection.

Talent show on Trafalgar Square. ;-)

If you skate and go to London, do contact these amazing and talented people. You can do it by for example joining/contacting this group on Facebook: London Longboards. Or by reading and contacting via the London Londboards Blog here. They will be more than happy to take you along to skate sessions all around the city. You should most definitely go to London for a weekend during CM time, which is always the last Friday of the month. A skate at Critical Mass will redefine your understanding of the words stoke, community, friendship, kindness, help and fun. And I will be jealous that I won't be there to join you.
