Day Nine: The Crab Attack & back to Havana!
Waking up to the sun shining, bright blue sky of Trinidad and the lovely little Barbara-Lucia smiling isn't a bad start for a day. It was also a once in a lifetime experience.
Our taxi came to pick us from our casa particular right on time with a few others in it already. We headed off to pick up a couple of more passengers to fill the car up and start our travel back to Havana.
Sanni and I sat in front with the driver. He wanted to be our boyfriend. How many boyfriends did we get on this Cuba trip again?
My car rides were never that successful as sleeping was always a tough one. During one bus ride the seat was funny and kept bouncing up and down, and I was scared I was smacking someones head with the back of my seat. Yeah, I didn't get the best night's sleep on that bus ride.
Well, on this car ride I was sitting in the middle and I didn't have a neck rest. Also, there wasn't much space for my legs. Sleeping? Hah, impossible!
At least I got to see the beautiful views.
And the crab marathon!! Crazy, eh!?
Never seen that many in my life. Plus there was no water to be seen around. What dry land crabs were these guys?
Helloo, tourists! Want a piece of these sunglasses? |
We were told the trip back to Havana was supposed to take just about 3hours but the travel was done the Cuban way so it ended up being 5. Well, didn't mind. We were back at the hotel in time for some swimming and sun by the pool which was located on the 15th floor!
We also booked a trip for the next day: Viñales. And a bus to Varadero for the day after.
The building behind used to be the Hilton hotel of Havana. These days no American chains remain in Cuba. |
The view up from our hotel's top, 15th floor.
Our sunglasses were proven to be a hit during this trip! The perfect glasses for reading in the sun.
Later in the evening we went to the exchange some money at the National hotel. Havana's nr 1 hotel they say. Unfortunately the exchange office was closed, but we had read that the sunset view from the hotel was one of the best so we stayed for an evening snack to see whether there was any truth in those words or not.
That particular night - not.
Could have been nice but there were too many clouds in the way. Boo.
