Seventh Day - The Cuba Diary

Day Seven: Hello Trinidad - pineapple time!

From Santiago de Cuba our journey continued to Trinidad.
Due to the trouble with getting on the Santiago bus we had bought Trinidad tickets in advance. Wouldn't have needed to. The bus to Trinidad was nearly empty with only a few tourists.
Once again the journey was long. And cold.

We arrived in Trinidad early in the morning, 7am to be precise. The lovely lady from our previous accommodation had reserved a casa de la particular from Trinidad and arranged everything for us. Once we stepped out of the bus in Trinidad, we could see a man with his bike and note saying something like 'Linda & Sanni' but in reality was not...unfortunately I forgot how he'd spelt Sanni. But it was funny. :-)

Trinidad was yet again a fully different side to Cuba. The houses were all cute and colorful. No high buildings. Two floors maximum, except in the old town some three floored ones.
It was like going way back in time - the streets were made of cobblestone, people rode horses and the whole atmosphere was very cosy village-like. Though, a lot more tourists than in Santiago!
Oh and Trinidad was the most cheapest city/village of our whole trip. I bought hand made spoon rings for 3pesos (2,1€). In Italy I paid 15€.

After breakfast, waiting for our room to be available, visiting an artist and his gallery, a 2 hour nap and buying tickets on a paradise island trip for the next day, we decided to spend the rest of the evening on the beach.

We got a cheap taxi to take us and pick us up a few hours after. Really nice, super easy. Good price.

The beach, Playa Ancon, was nice. Nothing super special, but nice.
At least it was quiet and we could be alone without anyone wanting to take pictures with us.

In the evening we headed off to discover the old town.

...got lost and found ourselves from a Cuban houseparty?!?

We were trying to head back to our 'home' but could not find the way anymore. My head based navigator was spinning from East to West without a clue how  to get home. It was getting dark. We were getting hungry.

We heard the 'pego' song and headed towards the house it was coming from.
It was Mr. Goldtooth's 21st Birthday.
We were invited to join, take pictures of them (and us), to dance and drink rum.
After a moment they convinced us and we found ourselves dancing at a Cuban house party which literally had people from babies to the older generation. Crazy. Fun.
They laughed at my stupid dance attempts. I laughed because one of the older men was offering Sanni and me pineapple and rum. He himself was so rummed up that his eyes were rolling around. Maybe it would have been for the best if we'd taken some of that rum of his.

Hunger attacked way too much, plus getting home started to feel impossible in the pitch-black Trinidad. We had to excuse ourselves and leave, though we were offered to have a meal and stay at the party. The meal would have been pineapple. Instead of eating at their house they then agreed we could leave. On one condition: we'd take their present, the pineapple, with us. :-D cuties!

We headed back to the center of the old town and found a restaurant that still happened to be open. Or actually we thought they opened it for us as they saw we were looking in, but a couple of other people came in after us, too.

Somehow we found our way home after, somehow.

Trinidad is beautiful.

xoxo
Linda
