Tim Knol @Patronaat 10.9.2010

Goo'ho'hooooood Morning.
Today I woke up tired, very tired, because of going to sleep early yesterday. Where's the logic? Anywhoo, the morning pilates -lesson woke me up and now I think I finally have the energy to really finish school work. Fingers crossed!

Yesterday we went to see Tim Knol (a Dutch rising star), who I found pretty good. The young guy has a voice you wouldn't expect, he's well talented. His lyrics can be found, well, interesting and I'm sure there's room for long discussions about whether they are good or not but to me it looked like the fellow really sang from his heart. I'm 100% sure the songs have some touchy stories and feeling behind them that Tim couldn't even explain. He's young, talented and will have a few hits, I'm sure. Already in the radio's, TV, and tip parade lists can be found the song "Sam" which's music video you can check out from here:

Let me present you the warm-up band called ... ? (as in I have no idea)

The singer reminded me of Jack Black.
Vincent wanted a picture with all the Finn's. Scott, you wannabe!

The country where everything is done the hard way

GOOD MORNING SUNSHINE!

Today is a sunny day, finally. No rain yet either, loving it! Anyway - some Dutch wisdom for you:

In Holland you should never expect to get what you want easily.

When going shopping you usually bump into the problem that you can't buy/pay because you don't have a Dutch credit card. Exceptions are bigger international brands like H&M, Vila, and so. Now it comes to your mind that, well what about cash then - right? Well, usually they take cash, yes, but today I bumped into the most weirdest and stupidest shop ever. I finally found the most perfect food shop to fulfill my grocery needs - a whole organic store with long searched for goji- and inca -berries. But guess what? They didn't take cash, neither did they take cards from other countries than Holland. What is their business idea? Please, come on! I hope I understood them totally wrong - I can't believe it's true. Going to have to go there again some other day and try once more with my Finnish Visa. I just can't believe it would be true, who on earth would even have that kind of an idea "won't sell for other than Dutch credit card holders". Blah!

Anyway, yesterday I went to the bank and am now waiting for my Dutch credit card to arrive. When I get it, I can finally go to places without carrying cash with me. Also, I can finally get a mobile deal and aah, life will be so much more easier. But believe me, getting a Dutch account isn't too easy either. Nothing happens in seconds, in minutes, in days even. We're talking about a week or weeks. Oh boy!

Yesterday I also went gym searching. First to this elite super coolio nice gym but the price wasn't so coolio. After I found myself from a bodybuilders gym on the other side of town that cost only 20e (for women). Was pretty scary even though everyone welcomed me very friendlily. I felt like I'd got lost to a sweat smelling prison guys' gym. Doubt I'll find myself going to work out there, no matter the cheap prise haha! Or well, maybe I'd get some private training lessons and I'd be fit in no time. Okay, maybe not. Even the owner (a former bodybuilder) said "I guess this isn't what you are looking for. But hey, it's cheap for you!". Yeah, dude, you hit the right bucket on that one!

Don Lon, my love

Ready, steady - go

Oritey, so be prepared for a huuuuge picture post! But first my trip in a few words. Just a few, though.

My old home!
My Primary School!
My nursery!
Blackheath
My first shoes were bought from this shop, I've been told
Ballet school!
Saturday sweets were nearly always bought from here after ballet lessons! The woman working there still remembered my mum.

This is where I started my road to music loving. By playing the piano. I guess I wasn't too much of a piano lover, though, since all I did was play hide and seek with the teacher (in a room that only had a piano, two chairs, two tables and a cupboard). Anyway, a conservatoire!;-)

Mum's Birthday! <3 - During the day we went to Greenwich park with mum and dad. In the evening we went to eat some Indian food with our family friends after which I went out for a few drinks with Vince, my childhood friend (who was also at the Indian restaurant with his family). Our waiter was great and superly funny. Food was amazing. Greenwich's barlife not my cup of tea. The way girls dress up to bars - not my cup of tea either. What's it with those short skirts and high heels you can't even walk with? Ugh. But it was good to chittychat with Vince since it had been a whiiile!

Now I'm back in Haarlem and enjoying it to it's most. Today I've been searching for good gyms and dance schools. Hopefully I find some good ones to get sporty again! Went for a jog already, good start haha.

Anywhoo, missing Finland and was also checking some flights today.

First day & Stiels

School started today! Cool. I'm taking a minor called "International Music Publishing". Some of the things I've learnt before but there's also some new parts. Everything is taught via the Dutch publishers and collecting societies and all - so I learn about them, too. For example in Finland the royalty collecting organization of performance rights is called TEOSTO and in the Netherlands it is BUMA(/STEMRA). Our teacher seemed really interesting and she has her own company in the field that I'm really interested in, music supervising. You can read more about her company from here: http://www.solidasarock.eu/?language=english.

My classmates from Finland, Hanna and Roosa, told me to get to know some people they got to know during their exchange here in Haarlem. After a lot of Facebook communication with Hanna's and Roosa's friends, we finally had a face-to-face meet-up today! We went to a jazz(ish) bar called Stiels with Irma and my roommate Daniel to hear some INHolland students perform. At Stiels we bumped into Chris and ESN-Roger. Unfortunately had to leave the good-atmosphered venue early enough to get a good nights sleep.

School again at 8.30 so now off to bed!

XXXO

Good evening/night, folks.

Yesterdays trip to Amsterdam was really nice despite the Dutch weather. I think it has actually been raining every single day of my stay. The weather changes so randomly, it can be sunny and warm and suddenly start raining even though the sun is still shining. You can't really forecast the weather at all. In A'dam we had the most hilarious guide ever, Julian. He told the most boring things in the most interesting way. We went to see the red light district of which I unfortunately have no pictures of. It's prohibited to take pictures there (at least of the girls). The district wasn't such a shock to me. Expected for something way more shocking. Must be because of our daytime visit, though. Maybe it's a bit more exciting and shocking during night. But yeah, you could see people of all kind, all interest and style exploring the streets of red light. Anyways, it mostly being a tourist attraction.
Interesting shop before turning to the red light district

After the tour I felt freezing cold so I decided to head back to Haarlem with a few of the ESN -people and three other exchangies. I went to have Sunday Dinner (which was our tradition with some exchangies and locals in Jyväskylä) with Yana, Alex, Ally, Puto, Petteri, Heikki and Pekka. It was great to finally have some time to sit down and hang out with them and hear about how they were.

Today I did some shopping with my Brit -friends. We went to search for all kinds of stuff from Ikea furniture to internet cables (ooh, and some clothes, too). After all the shopping Ally, Puto, Pekka, Petteri and Heikki came over to see my apartment and have a little chittychatty (and Ikea cake!). Ally and Puto are leaving for Breda tomorrow so it'll be October when I see them next. Will miss my sis 'n' bro (no matter how much Puto likes teasing me with picking his eye and with his "boo" -shouts).

Tomorrow I start school with the international music publishing course. Thankfully there are Heikki, Petteri, Ida and Nina on the same course so I'm not totally lost with everything!:-)

Good night y'all!

PS: When A, P, P, P and H were leaving my place they found a little friend outside the door. Thankfully Scott came to the rescue!
